Projects:
In 2011 and again in 2012 the Alumni Association participated in a partnership with the Louisiana State University Shreveport, Science Department. This program is the "After School Program for Innovation and Respect for Education" (A.S.P.I.R.E.). LSUS students and faculty members serve as mentors for the program. The planned activities for the 2012-2013 school year include model rocketry, animal physiology and hatching baby ducks, understanding engines and thermodynamics, formulating science projects based on the Scientific Method, testing anti-fungal agents, the chemistry behind good nutrition, geology and crystal growth, perfume formulation, genetic engineering, digital microscopy, photovoltaic (solar cells), fuel cells, aeronautics, and magnetism. This program is funded by a grant. There is no cost to the Caddo Parish School Board.
The A.S.P.I.R.E. program provided the foundation for the 2012 Science Fair at Fair Park. This was the first science fair at Fair Park in approximately forty years. The fair was sponsored by the Alumni Association. All entries in the school science fair qualified for the five-parish district meet. The Alumni Association paid the entry fees for our student in the district meet. At the district meet, one Fair Park student received the third place award in biochemistry and another student received the Naval Research Foundation Award.
In the fall of 2012, the Fair Park High School A.S.P.I.R.E. program was featured on a recent Louisiana Public Broadcasting program.
In 2012, the Fair Park High School Alumni Association initiated contact with Bossier Parish Community College to bring their Pharmacy Tech Course to the Fair Park Medical Careers Magnet Program. BPCC provide the instructor, textbooks, and supplies for the course. On completion of this dual enrollment course, students will earn six hours of college credit and qualify to work in a pharmacy. On completion of 400 hours of paid pharmacy work students will qualify for their pharmacy tech license. Funding for the program is provided by Bossier Parish Community College. There is no cost to the Caddo Parish School Board.
In 2012, the Fair Park High School Alumni Association initiated contact with the Cyber Innovation Center to bring a Cyber Science Course and a Stem (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Physics Course to Fair Park. In the summer of 2012, the Cyber Innovation Center provided professional development for five Fair Park teachers. The training for the cyber and physics courses was held at Louisiana Tech University. In addition, the Cyber Innovation Center is providing supplies and equipment to Fair Park for these courses. There are plans to expand this program with additional cyber courses as programs are developed. In July 2013, two teachers were cross-trained in Cyber Science. There is no cost to the Caddo Parish School Board.
Loyola College Prep and Fair Park have developed a partnership. Each year, Loyola holds a coat drive, sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The donations from this drive are brought to Fair Park shortly before Christmas. This donation provided approximately three hundred coats for our students and their families for the winter months.
The Cinderella Project and the Association have arranged a partnership. The Cinderella Project provides prom dresses to any junior or senior girl at Fair Park High School that desires to participate, at no cost.
For two years, the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum had an exhibit highlighting Shreveport and "Remembering When". The Fair Park High School Alumni Association was invited to place an exhibit both years. The first year's exhibit featured the history of Fair Park High School. The second year, the feature of the exhibit was the eleven professional athletes, the two-time Olympian, and coaches from our school.
